About this deal

Framing the book in the context of the show means we also experience our main characters in a sort of vacuum, removed from their everyday lives and jobs while they focus on their goal. What I liked most about this book is the cast of characters, mains and secondary alike, especially in its diversity. In fact, I felt like it strengthened character development because it was easier for them to become more themselves through each other. I don’t watch reality TV shows – I have enough reality in my life, thank you very much – except for an episode here and there of baking shows when the people close to me are watching, but I would absolutely have rooted for Kris and D’Vaughn had Instant I Do been on my TV. I lost the plot a bit because the reality show wasn’t all that interesting to me, and it both seemed kinda like a confusing afterthought but also too present lol.

I enjoyed meeting these characters and their families, and I can’t wait to read another sapphic book by Higgins. D'Vaughn goes on to the show so that she has an opportunity to come out to her conservative religious family.

In 2019 she won a Romance Slam Jam Emma award for her debut paranormal romance, Janine: His True Alpha. When she isn't hunkered down in her writing cave, Chencia can be found with her nose in a book (or two, or three), saving recipes on Pinterest for things she’ll never make, and traveling as much as possible with her family. I loved the bilingual aspect, the starting a sentence in one language and finishing it in another, it made me feel very at home.

There’s something in the way this story is written, especially in the dialogues (and the Jitter Cam moments) that I find extremely satisfying. Absolutely full of heart, love and humour, and with so many feelings about love and family that I found myself grinning nonstop. Higgins makes her print debut with an emotionally powerful, boldly sexy, and ultimately joyful tale of love and acceptance that makes the most of its reality television show premise as well as its vibrant cast of characters , not to mention the author's fresh, fun spin on the always popular fauxmance trope . I loved getting to meet their families and see how their families reacted to the news of their marriage. The chaotic family dynamics and relentless sibling teasing was a touch that I particularly appreciated. Obviously in Romancelandia we are opening our minds and hearts to things that prooobably would not happen in real life. The premise of this book is that are mains are on a reality show where they have to convince their families that that have fallen in love and are planning a wedding that will happen in only two months (I think it was only 2). She hits all the right notes, capturing the tender moments between the pair in soft whispers and sexy murmurs, and their brief bouts of angst in a tighter strained voice.

When she isn’t hunkered down in her writing cave, Chencia can be found with her nose in a book (or two, or three), saving recipes on Pinterest, and traveling as much as possible with her family.I liked the reality show idea and the weekly challenges added interesting structure to the plot, though it also made it feel rushed at times, perhaps due to page constraints.
