Eric Carle, the spectacular etymological collagist who wrote The Very Hungry Caterpillar, has a new story of birth and renewal. Made it slightly difficult to concentrate on the last few sentences, despite their extreme shortness. The full color photographs combined with easy to grasp information should make this a good nonfiction extension. While it's kind of cute and pleasant for the first loop, after that it really becomes grating and I found it distracting. A very quiet cricket who wants to rub his wings together and make a sound as do so many other insects finally achieves his wish.The Very Quiet Cricket by Eric Carle is a wonderful short story about a young little cricket who wants to interact with the creatures around him, but he can't figure out how. Not only that but it teaches kids a good lesson about never giving up and to keep trying no mater what.
