About this deal

Danielle Steel brings us Antonia Adams who becomes the target of her parents' bitterness and hatred relishes the feeling of being invisible to the world. I understand that the author has a good reason for setting up Antonia and Hamish, as he’s a father figure for her, but it just didn’t sit right to me. Antonia looked nothing like her French mother, Fabienne Basquet, a fiery young woman with jet black hair, porcelain white skin, and lush lips, enhanced by bright red lipstick. And then, like a homing pigeon, she went to Paris, a city she didn’t know but had dreamed of all her life.

Antonia Adams is the product of a loveless marriage between a beautiful young model and a wealthy entrepreneur. She is extremely focused on her goals and her father warns her that if she becomes an actress he will never speak to her again. When she makes a filmmaker who encourages her passion of being behind the camera by having her explore being in front of the camera. The story began with an agonizing 50+ pages of explaining why the main character, Antonio, preferred to be invisible -- BORING! This was a heartbreaking novel from start to finish, but one that I enjoyed because not everything was wonderful and it had a more authentic feel. She had no living relatives, but seemed undaunted by her circumstances, and was certain that she would have a career as an actress one day. Danielle Steel has been hailed as one of the world's most popular authors, with over 650 million copies of her novels sold. She looked nothing like any of the conservative, well-brought-up women he knew, and was stunningly beautiful. He was from an old, respected family whose fortune had dwindled slowly over time, but there was still enough left for his widow and son to live in a decent neighborhood in a nice apartment in the East Eighties in New York, and for Brandon to get a good education at Columbia, and go to business school after that. This is not an easy read like all her books, but if you love a hard hitting book you should give this book a try.

I managed to follow this one until the end but I have to say it is not one of Steel’s best novels by far. This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for an honest professional review. The characters are still likable, I was disappointed the best friend all but disappeared about halfway through the book. She thought Paris was the most exciting city in the world, and was hoping to be “discovered” by a producer. He left Paris, as so many other soldiers did, with unforgettable memories of his time in Paris, leaving behind a baby he knew nothing about and never would. When her father found out she was offered a role in a movie; he was irate and threw her out of the house.

By the time he met Fabienne in Paris in 1970, he was making a considerable amount of money and living well.

Danielle Steel has been hailed as one of the world’s bestselling authors, with almost a billion copies of her novels sold.

The story was good, but there were no big moments (happy or sad), so I'll stick with 'pleasant' as my novel descriptor. This was the first book that I've attempted to read by Danielle Steel, and unfortunately, the writing style is not for me. Her father thought she looked like an angel, with a fuzz of white-blond hair as a baby, soft blond curls as she grew older, and big blue eyes. Having no other relatives, she was sent to an orphanage in Quimper, where she stayed until she was eighteen. Brandon spends more and more time away from their apartment working to avoid fighting with his wife. The strong focus on telling the story rather than going into a full explanation or degree of depths of events was evident yet again in this release. There is a narrowed focus on the film industry, with a specific look at the screen writing industry.
